A Laclede County man is being held without bond after being charged with the abuse of a 3-year-old child. Laclede County Deputies responded to a home in the 22-thousand-block of Green Gables, where they found the 3-year-old boy laying on a mattress on the floor. The boy’s eye was swollen shut, his legs were in an abnormal position and his arm was in a brace. 39-year-old George Wade Holmes was questioned and later arrested. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment and was found to have a broken arm, a broken leg, and indications of shaken baby syndrome. The child was then airlifted to a Springfield hospital and was found to be in critical condition with infection in his blood and bones, multiple fractured bones, and suffering from malnutrition. The child’s mother said that Holmes had been living with them for about 5 months, and had been abusing her son, possibly since December.
