A surprisingly high number of people who are awarded probation in the courtroom fail to take advantage of that second chance that probation gives them. They violate the terms of the probation and find themselves headed to prison to serve time. Aaron Depriest of Springfield violated his probation for possession of a controlled substance. Judge John Beger sentenced Depriest to serve 7 years in the Department of Corrections. John Thomason of Dixon violated his probation for domestic assault in the second degree. As a result, Thomason was sentenced by Judge Bill Hickle to serve 7 years of prison time. And John Nelson of St. Robert failed to adhere to terms of his probation for possession of a controlled substance and assault in the third degree. Judge Hickle sentenced Nelson to serve 8 years in the Department of Corrections.
