The Missouri Veterans Cemetery-Fort Leonard Wood will host a public Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27th, starting at one o’clock in the afternoon. The ceremony will include remarks from Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe and Colonel Joseph C. “Clete” Geotz, 100th Commandant of the U-S Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day was established as a day for Americans to honor those killed during the Civil War. After World War One it was expanded to honor those who have died in all American wars. Memorial Day was declared a national holiday in 1971 and is observed on the last Monday in May.
