National Literacy Month focus on kids

September is National Literacy Month According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, reading proficiency by third grade is one of the most important predictors of whether a student will graduate high school and succeed in a career. Carol Barsby Director of the Laclede Literacy Council says there are things that parents and caregivers can do to get children interested in reading, including setting a good example..

To keep children interested in reading you can set up a reading reward system, or set up a themed reading nook, and make reading fun. According to the U.S. Department of Education, 32 million adults in the U.S. can’t read, and getting kids interested in reading early can reduce those numbers.
