(Jefferson City)–49.3 million travelers are projected by Triple-A to hit the highways this Thanksgiving holiday period from Wednesday through Sunday. This represents a 2.8 percent rise in traffic volume over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, a 4.45 million Americans are expected to fly to their Thanksgiving destination, with air travel experiencing a 4.6 percent growth compared to last year.

All told, estimates are that more than 55 million travelers will venture at least 50 miles from home this Thanksgiving, the most since 2005, and the second-highest number since Triple-A began tracking in 2000.
