Today is the first day of the spring turkey hunting season in Missouri
In addition to being tax deadline day and the anniversary of President Lincoln’s assassination, today is the first day of the spring turkey hunting season in Missouri.
The MDC has expanded its shooting hours to all day on private land this year, though public land still closes at 1 p.m., a change that is expected to lead to an increase.
Hunters with a Missouri spring hunting permit can take two male turkeys or turkeys with visible beards during the season, with the following restrictions: You may take only one turkey during the first week. If you do not take one during the first week, then you may take two turkeys during the second and third week. You may not take two turkeys on the same day. Hunters can use shotguns with shots not larger than No. 4, longbows, recurve bows, or compound bows. Hand-held string-releasing devices, illuminated sights, scopes, and quick point sights are allowed, as crossbows and atlatls. The season will run through May 5th.
