Sunrise Beach man accused of beating a 71 year old family member

A Sunrise Beach man is in custody for the assault of a 71-year-old Camden County man. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an assault on Monday and found the victim lying behind a door with a severe head wound and injuries to his body. The victim was airlifted to an area hospital and is in serious condition. The investigation led officers to suspect 28-year-old Michael Barker of Sunrise Beach. Barker is accused of stomping on the victim’s chest, beating him with his fists, and dragging him across the residence, before leaving him for dead. Barker is charged with felony domestic assault, stealing, and misdemeanor assault. At the time of his arrest, Barker was found in possession of credit cards, and other items that belonged to the victim. He remains in the Camden County Jail without bond.
