Governor Mike Parson came to the Waynesville Board of Education meeting Monday night to issue a statewide proclamation declaring April as the Month of the Military Child across the state.

 

He was accompanied by the Missouri Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven and by the Commanding General of Fort Leonard Wood, Major General James Bonner and his wife.  General Bonner talked about the couple’s personal experience with the Waynesville School District.

 

Missouri Commissioner of Education, Dr. Margie Vandeven, talked about April 15th being “Purple Up Day” with students statewide to show support for military children by wearing purple on that day.  She said the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will soon be launching the state’s Purple Star School Program.

 

The Waynesville Career Center site was standing room only Monday night for the Proclamation of the Month of the Military Child.
