Heat index values of 100 plus degrees expected this weekend through Wednesday next week
Scattered thunderstorms will be possible today across mainly southern Missouri. Cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain will be the main hazards with the scattered thunderstorms. More organized thunderstorms are expected late tonight as a thunderstorm complex moves into the area from the northwest. A few strong storms will be possible with gusty winds, however, widespread severe storms are not expected at this time. Heavy rain and localized flooding will be possible. Afternoon heat index values of 100 to 105 will be possible later today. A few lingering thunderstorms will be possible Saturday morning as the thunderstorm complex shifts out of the area. Additional thunderstorms will be possible Saturday night into Sunday as a warm front lifts north and back through the area. Heat index values on Saturday and Sunday will be in the 100 to 105-degree range. Heat index values are then expected to increase into the 103 to 108-degree range for Monday into Wednesday of next week with temperatures warming into the mid to upper 90s.
