Charges Filed In Courtroom Incident

An accused criminal tried to seize a bailiff’s gun during a Laclede County court proceeding on Thursday morning. Kevyn Zumwalt was standing near the defense table shortly before 9 a.m., when she tried to grab the officer’s weapon. Officers were able to subdue Zumwalt after a brief struggle. That incident took place in court being presided over by Judge Steve Jackson.

Zumwalt has been formally charged by the Laclede County Prosecutor with, disarming a peace officer while performing an official duty, which is a class D felony.

Resisting a lawful detention, which is a class E felony.

Further research shows that Zumwalt has multiple prior felony convictions. She is also facing charges as recent as February 2023 of Assault in the 2nd degree out of Newton County Missouri for allegedly strangling a victim until they lost consciousness.

She is being held without bond in the Laclede County Jail.
