If you’re going to college this month, or are a parent of school-age children, this is your time to buy back-to-school supplies and clothing and not pay the state sales tax, nor in most cases any county or city sales tax as well. Today begins the annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday. The Sales Tax Holiday will run until midnight on Sunday. No state sales tax will be charged on clothing up to $100 in value, school supplies up to $50 per purchase, computer software with a taxable value of $350 or less, personal computers not exceeding $1500, and graphing calculators not exceeding $150. Counties and cities that have not opted out of the sales tax holiday will not collect county or city sales taxes as well. However, city sales taxes on back-to-school purchases will be collected in Waynesville, Eldon, Houston, Jefferson City, Licking, and Columbia. County sales taxes will be collected in Pulaski, Phelps, Texas, Camden, and Greene Counties, among others. Laclede County and Lebanon stores are the only ones in this area offering tax reductions for the state, county, and city.
