The American Red Cross and the family of Maeleigh “Mae” Toynton are teaming up to host the ‘Yays for Mae’ blood drive in her honor on Saturday,
Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Campbell First United Methodist Church in Springfield. Mayleigh “Mae” Toynton is a 15-year-old who was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Mayleigh came up with the idea for the blood drive, and her mother Dior Toynton said she wanted to celebrate Mae being done with chemotherapy.

For people like Maeleigh, blood transfusions are an extremely vital part of treatment, and Dior said that just in this past week, they had to drive to Kansas City just so Maeleigh could get a blood transfusion.

To Donate at the Yays for Mae Blood Drive, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and enter/mention sponsor code YaysforMae, or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed, and A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Again, the blood drive is Saturday, Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Campbell First United Methodist Church, 1747 E. Republic, in Springfield.
