(Fort Leonard Wood)–Last week’s cold weather and icy precipitation has reminded us of the hazards of winter driving. On Fort Leonard Wood, the Snow Removal Section, known as SNAIR, alerts the public of driving conditions on post.

Road conditions are classified by color. Green means there is no safety threat to the public due to weather conditions. Motorists can proceed with normal operations.

Amber means roads are icy or snow packed, but clearing operations are making roads passable. Drivers must slow to ten miles per hour below the posted speed limit to maintain traction and a safe stopping distance.

Red means most intersections present difficult or no stopping conditions. Clearing operations have not kept priority number one roads easily passable. The safe speed limit is ten to 15 miles per hour regardless of posted limit.

Black restricts the use of all vehicular traffic on post, except for emergency vehicles. Non-emergency vehicles must obtain approval from their authorized delegated officer.

Current Fort Wood SNAIR road conditions can be found online or on Facebook. Hunters should contact Range Operations at 573-596-0131, extension 66147 or 62525, for the most current limitations during inclement weather.
