Waynesville High School’s BETA Club is conducting a shoe drive for the public to drop off shoes both new and gently used. Donations will be donated to Funds2Orgs, who helps impoverished people start, maintain, and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras, and other nations in Central America and Africa. These countries sell the donated shoes and the funds go back into villages to buy food, clothes and even pay to house the families. Dawn Wilking is a Teacher at WHS and also the BETA club sponsor and mentions, “This is a good time to do some spring cleaning of your closets and help others in the process.”

Individuals may drop off their new or gently used shoes at WHS’s drive-thru drop-off on Monday, March 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. OR Wednesday, April 7th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ninth Grade Center entrance on the Waynesville High School campus, located near Tiger Stadium.

Dawn mentioned a struggle to find a fundraiser that was feasible within safety protocols this year. Her Co-Sponsor came across the Funds2orgs shoe drive and knew it was an easy way for the BETA program to host a fundraiser and allow the community to really get involved.

In addition, the Waynesville High School BETA Club will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated footwear.
Those funds will be used by BETA for future service projects and for state and national convention expenses. To learn more about the shoe drive, BETA program, or Funds2orgs, visit the Waynesville High School website. Both dates for the Shoe drive are Monday, March 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, April 7th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ninth Grade Center.
