Tomorrow is General Municipal Election Day in Missouri, a time when voters will go to the polls to cast their ballots for city offices, board of education members, and local ballot issues.
Pulaski County voters will decide the fate of a county capital improvement sales tax proposal for one-half percent in perpetuity for the purpose of building, improving, and maintaining bridges and roadways in Pulaski County. The current personal property tax for roads and bridges would be phased out over the next five years. County officials also are asking for voter approval of a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate. In addition, patrons in the Laquey school district are being asked to approve borrowing 550-thousand dollars to provide funds to replace heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, repair or replace roofs, repair windows, and other repairs or improvements. The district would issue general obligation bonds for repayment without having to raise the district’s debt service property tax levy.
The City of Dixon is asking residents to approve making the City Marshall an appointive position rather than an elective one. If approved, the city council would appoint the Chief of Police.
Dixon is also asking for voter approval of a local use tax at the same rate of the total local sales tax rate, which is currently 2 percent. A use tax return would not be required to be filed by persons whose purchases from out-of-state vendors do not in total exceed two thousand dollars in any calendar year.
The City of Richland is also asking residents to approve a local use tax on purchases from out-of-state vendors.
The City of Crocker is asking for voter approval of a proposition t impose a sales tax of one-half of one percent for the purpose of improving public safety.
