Weekend accidents including one fatality in Camden County
This weekend was a bad time for serious incidents on the highways in the area. Friday night right before 11 o’clock, 40-year-old Tyler Schultz of Waynesville was driving a Ford F-150 near the 157-mile marker on westbound I-44 when a propane tank in the bed of the truck caught fire. The tank exploded as he was exiting the interstate, which caused the truck to catch on fire. Schultz escaped but had to be life-flighted to a Springfield hospital for treatment of his serious injuries. There was a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon around 2:30 in Camden County. According to the highway patrol, 28-year-old Robert Eaton of Camdenton was riding his 1986 Honda on Highway 7 when it ran off the roadway, went airborne, struck a telephone pole, and overturned. Eaton was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene. A U-T-V accident in Benton County Sunday afternoon left three riders in serious condition after the vehicle went over a ledge while it was backing up and dropped into Truman Lake. Two of the individuals were life-flighted to University Hospital in Columbia, the other was transported to Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia.
