Washington Man Sentenced For Fort Wood Sexual Assault

A 56-year-old Renton, Washington man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in federal prison without parole for traveling to Missouri to assault a girl sexually.

Timothy Smith is also sentenced to supervised release for the rest of his life following the prison sentence.

On Nov. 9, 2020, he pleaded guilty to traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

Authorities started investigating in 2018 after the girl told a friend Smith sexually assaulted her. A school counselor learned about the sexual assault and contacted the Missouri Department of Social Services.

The child reported she was sexually assaulted by Smith several times between the ages of 5-12 at Fort Leonard Wood and at a Missouri home.
