Voting Systems Could Change

Some Missouri Republicans are working to ban two voting systems. The Missouri House has given initial approval to a plan sponsored by Republican state Representative Ben Baker, which would ask voters to bar ranked choice and approval voting in Missouri. The systems allow voters to choose more than one candidate running for office, with the candidate getting the most votes ultimately winning.

State Representative Robert Sauls, a Kansas City Democrat, says he thinks ranked choice voting would lead to more moderate politicians. One more vote in favor of the resolution would send the plan to the Senate for that chamber to decide whether it backs the proposal.
