Education has taken on a new path during the Covid-19 pandemic. During the virtual Lebanon Rotary Club meeting, Lebanon R-3 Superintendent David Schmitz shared some of the measures they have taken to provide education to students, with a timeline that began with the distribution of 4000 Chromebooks to students in mid-March. She said they are staying in communication with parents and students, to make sure that no one falls behind. A $30-thousand-dollar grant from the Lebanon Education Foundation allowed the district to supply 400 hotspots to students who might not have access to the internet, and for those where the hotspots didn’t work, they are providing paperwork to students.
Shortly after school closed, the Lebanon R-3 School District began serving meals to students and since then more than 132-thousand meals have been provided to students.
Teams now take meals to neighborhoods via school bus, providing breakfast and lunch for 7 days a week for the students. The last day of the regular school year is May 21st, with the Summer Experience launching online in June and in-person in July.
