A federal investigation continues into a deadly train crash Monday afternoon near northern Missouri’s Mendon. Two Missouri residents and two Kansas residents died after an Amtrak train collided with a dump truck. National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy (haw-men-dee) says mechanical problems with the train have been ruled out.

She says the crossing is very steep, which she says has an impact on large moving vehicles. About 150 people were taken from the scene to area hospitals for injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Names of the four people killed in the Amtrak crash have been revealed. Cameron Conner has details on that and a moment of kindness.

The passengers who died were identified as Rachelle Cook, 58, and Kim Holsapple, 56, both of De Soto, Kansas; and Binh Pham, 82, of Kansas City. Cook and Holsapple were declared dead at the scene, the highway patrol said. Pham was pronounced dead Tuesday at a hospital in Columbia.
