Veteran’s treatment court active in 5 county area
In 2019, Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed a bill into law that created a Veteran’s Treatment Court. Among circuit courts that already have the veteran’s treatment court set up, is the 26th Circuit, which serves Laclede, Camden, Miller, Morgan and Moniteau County. Judge Aaron Koeppen is heavily involved in the treatment court, which allows active-duty military and veterans that have substance abuse or mental health issues, and avenue that doesn’t lead to prison.
The intent of the treatment court is to help the individual overcome addiction issues, by helping them change their behavior. A part of the program includes a mentor program, which Judge Koeppen said they have a need for….
Those who would like to be a mentor in the program should call 573-346-4440 extension 3212.
The Veterans Treatment Court is a 12 to 18-month program which is funded in part by state and federal grants.
The state law requires each Missouri circuit court to set up a veterans’ treatment court before August 2021.
