Tonight will be the Silver Anniversary celebration of Christmas on the Square in Downtown Waynesville, complete with silver bells, beautiful lights, and traditional holiday fare. There will be free food and drinks, Christmas music, giveaways from many different organizations, Christmas pictures with the Grinch and Santa inside the Pulaski County Courthouse, the lighting of the Nativity Scene above Bell Bluff, and more. Here’s Christmas on the Square spokesperson Joanne Goethe

There will be more than 40 vendors in the downtown area. And, this year, thru-traffic will be shut down on Historic Route 66 from 5 to 9 o’ clock, according to Waynesville mayor Pro Tem Sean Wilson.

The detour around the Waynesville Square during Christmas on the Square will be Highway 17 to Pine Street through the City Park back to Historic Route 66 west of the Downtown Square, and vice versa if you’re driving eastward on Historic Route 66.
Public parking in the downtown area will be available but limited in scope. However, there is plenty of free parking in the City Park and in the parking lots of Waynesville Middle School and the adjoining Westside Baptist Church, with free shuttle service available to the Waynesville Square and back again.
