Randy mentions the upside to an ice storm is the time they have to prepare; sometimes giving resources from the police department, fire and rescue and Emergency Management sometimes up to 48 hours to prepare and cover the roads and bridges with sand, and clear roadways for traffic.

Randy Rowe with laclede county emergency management says make sure you have a go-bag of supplies ready in the case of an emergency and plenty of gas in your vehicles if you plan to travel during severe weather. Always let someone know when and where youre traveling and be sure to give yourself plenty of space between other vehicles on the road.
