Three people have died after a house fire Saturday night near Rolla. According to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, around 10:46 p.m., an off-duty deputy who lives nearby immediately responded to a fire in the ten-thousand block of Phelps County Road 2120 and noticed a young boy outside. The deputy took care of the child until paramedics and other emergency crews arrived. Once other crews arrived, they learned more people were trapped inside the engulfed house. Authorities could not enter the house because of the heavy smoke and fire. Fire crews attempted to go into the house but had to evacuate because of the unsafe conditions. Authorities say firefighters were later able to put out the fire. The fire is still under investigation. The identity of those killed in the fire has not been released.
