The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is cautioning citizens not to fall for what are “Money Mule Scams.” These scams occur when someone sends you money and asks you to send it to someone else. This request could come your way by phone call or online. Scammers often ask you to buy gift cards or to wire money. They might recruit you through online job ads, prize offers, or dating websites. The Sheriff’s Department says never use your own bank account, or open one in your name, to transfer money for some stranger. Never pay to collect a prize or move any money out of your “winnings.” And never send money to an online love interest, even if he or she sends you a check first. They’ll make off with your money long before you discover their check was no good. More information is available at www.ftc.gov/scamalerts
