The Missouri Highway Patrol has released its preliminary report of the Memorial Weekend traffic accident. Ten people died in traffic crashes over the 2023 Memorial Day weekend counting period of 6 p.m., Friday, May 26th, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 29th. Troopers report investigating 314 crashes with 102 injuries and 10 fatalities. There were 130 driving while impaired arrests and 14 drug arrests. Two of the fatalities occurred in the Troop I area of the patrol. On the waterways, officers investigated 6 boating accidents with 6 injuries and no fatalities, and no drownings. There were 7 boating while impaired citations were issued and no drug arrests. Last year, the patrol investigated slightly fewer crashes with more injuries and fatalities.
