The Missouri Department of Conservation will be offering a Prescribed Fire Training Course and Demonstration Burn

The Missouri Department of Conservation will be offering a Prescribed Fire Training Course and Demonstration Burn for landowners in the Rolla area. The online course and in-person burn will provide basic information about how to plan and execute a prescribed burn for grassland and woodland management. Upon registration, participants will be given a link to the online portion of the training course. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite, and the demonstration burn is required to complete the certification. A demonstration burn will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon on January 14th. The objective of this workshop is to provide an overview of how to plan and conduct a safe and effective prescribed burn on various habitat types. Prescribed burning represents an effective and cost-efficient management tool; however, there are many issues and concerns to be considered. Effective planning is necessary to achieve beneficial effects and maintain a safe burn. This program will cover topics related to fire history, planning, weather, safety, and equipment needs. Participants must register online at mdc.mo.gov/events. Registration is limited to 40 participants. If you have questions, please call Luke Anderson, MDC at (573) 364-6202 x 4093.
