The City of Waynesville is now in a process of implementing a system to monitor its utility and other services in real-time. A step in that process began on Wednesday when Waynesville’s engineering firm started the Geographic Information System, or G-I-S, mapping of certain features of the city’s utility infrastructure.
Waynesville Mayor Pro Tem Sean Wilson explains.

G-I-S mapping is the first step in becoming a “Smart City.” Residents who would like to learn more about G-I-S mapping, or who are interested in “Smart City” improvements, are invited to attend monthly Utility Committee meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at the Waynesville Municipal Center.
