The 16th Annual Lieutenant General Robert B. Flowers Best Sapper Competition concluded Tuesday

The 16th Annual Lieutenant General Robert B. Flowers Best Sapper Competition concluded Tuesday with the announcement of the winning team and an awards ceremony on Fort Leonard Wood. The winning team–team 45–consisted of Captain Matthew Cushing and Captain Joseph Palazini of the 21st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd
I-B-C-T, 101st Airborne Division, from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Captain Cushing says the decision to enter this year’s Best Sapper Competition was made by the two Soldiers almost a year ago.
The Cushing-Palazini team was very close to the top of the pack all throughout the four days of the competition. And Captain Palazini has high praise on how well the event was conducted.
For the first time ever, the opening ceremonies and competitive events of the Best Sapper Competition were held off-post, in Roubidoux Park in Waynesville last Friday afternoon and evening.
