Missouri is deciding whether to give state and local sales tax exemptions to electric utilities for producing and transmitting energy. Republican state Senator Curtis Trent of Springfield is hoping the Missouri House debates his bill soon.

Several attempts at this bill have been made since 2014, but never was able to cross the finish line. In opposition, Richard Sheets, Executive Director with the Missouri Municipal League, expresses concern that the sales tax exemption would affect Missouri cities differently. The bill is currently being considered by a House committee.
