Update
The service of a search warrant on Thursday resulted in the arrest of two men, but not before a two-hour standoff on Park Drive. The Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group, the Highway Patrol Swat Team, and the Sheriff’s Office went to a residence on Gateway Road, to search the residence of Matthew Boggs and Troy Covey. Boggs was found outside the home and was detained and charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Several items including drug paraphernalia, a container with a small amount of methamphetamine and a digital scale with heavy residue, and a gun were located in Troy Covey’s room, but he wasn’t there. Law Enforcement then made their way to a residence on Park Drive, with a search warrant. Covey remained in the home and refused to come out. SWAT eventually broke windows to the residence and began calling for Covey to exit through the windows with no success. That was at around 1:30; at just after 3pm SWAT deployed tear gas into the attic of the residence and Covey came out and was taken into custody. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of a glass vial that contained methamphetamine and a smoking device with burnt residue from the garage. Law enforcement also recovered a loaded gun in a pile of clothes below the attic entrance. 33-year-old Troy Michael Covey is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
