State Senator Wants More Education Funding

With Friday’s deadline right around the corner, the Missouri House is expected to pass the next state budget today. The roughly 45-billion-dollar plan includes more than 3.5-billion in state aid to K-12 public schools and it fully funds the state’s share of school transportation costs. House and Senate budget negotiators settled on 50-million-dollars to provide grants to some families for tutoring, summer learning, and other educational opportunities related to pandemic-era learning loss. State Senator Barbara Washington, a Democrat from Kansas City, unsuccessfully lobbied for more bucks.

After the House wraps up the budget, the plan goes to the Senate for approval.
