State Police Troop I, will be out in force for Memorial day
(Jefferson City)–The official counting period for Memorial Day weekend will begin in a couple of days. The official start will be at 6 o’clock Friday evening and run through 12:59 Monday night. Troop I of the state highway patrol in Rolla reports that, during last year’s holiday period, there were 1,009 traffic crashes, which resulted in eight deaths, 433 injuries, and 96 arrests of drivers suspected of driving while intoxicated. Because of the coronavirus outbreak and a resulting slowdown in the nation’s economy, experts are uncertain how many people will be traveling this Memorial weekend. Nevertheless, the highway patrol will be conducting special operations this weekend with every available trooper on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists.
