With the recent spike in the number of COVID cases (50 reported during the first week of June), Laclede County Health Department Administrator Charla Baker is concerned about misinformation being widely circulated about the virus and the vaccine. Baker says one concerning thing that they hear is that some residents are not concerned about catching the COVID virus due to the strength of their immune system. Baker says that assumption has cost some residents their lives.

Baker says with the vaccine now being readily available, severe cases and deaths are nearly preventable………

Less than one out of every four Laclede County residents has had at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, and Laclede County ranks in the bottom third of counties in the state in vaccination rates.
