Typically the brown recluse spider in the Ozarks are most active in the early fall, however, spider bites can occur anytime. Jarad Milligan, Laclede County Agent with the Missouri Department of Conservation has tips on what to look for to avoid the pests.

If you have been bitten by a spider, clean the wound with soap and water, apply antibiotic cream. If you were bitten on an arm or leg, keep it raised while you’re resting. This can reduce swelling.
Put ice on it. Take over-the-counter pain medicine. Watch for more severe symptoms. A brown recluse bite can be serious and may require immediate medical care. Call a doctor if: You have severe symptoms throughout your body.
