Space Heater Safety

With the temperature coming down to the single digits, many people might turn to space heaters as a source of warmth. But, when trying to heat your space, you need to be careful to not cause fires. Fire Inspector from Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Section Michael Campbell explains why safety is important when it comes to space heaters.

Space Heaters are generally prohibited on Fort Leonard Wood unless an exception is approved for medical reasons, the temperature falls to a certain point, or they are a cost-effective way to reduce a facility’s energy use. Campbell also shared some ways to stay safe while using space heaters.

Additionally, make sure to review the instructions before use, and keep your space heater on a low flat surface.
