Some Missouri K-12 schools might be requiring masks during summer classes and others might not be. State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Spokeswoman Mallory McGowin says many students are not eligible to get vaccinated – kids ages 11 and under. During a Missouri Board of Education meeting, McGowin says the state has taken that factor into consideration when deciding whether to update its guidance.

McGowin emphasizes the recommendations are guidance – not requirements. She says local leaders are responsible for those policies and procedures.
