Severe Weather Preparedness Week Starts March 6th

Meteorological spring begins on Wednesday, March 1st, and with that the spring severe weather season gets underway. The National Weather Service, in cooperation with the State Emergency Management Agency, will be educating residents about severe weather beginning on March 6th with Severe Weather Preparedness Week. From March 6th through March 10th, residents can learn more on flood safety, receiving weather information, lightning safety, tornado safety, and hail and high wind safety. National Weather Service Meteorologist, Shelby Melto, says the state will also be conducting the annual tornado drill during Severe Weather Preparedness Week………

In Missouri, severe weather can strike at any time of the year, but the peak months are from March through June. Residents can learn more about how to prepare for severe weather by visiting the website storm aware dot mo dot gov. Missourians are also encouraged to utilize the Ready in 3 program to create a plan and prepare a kit for severe weather emergencies.
