Several Waynesville Middle School Students Sent Home Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

The Waynesville School District was notified Wednesday that two additional students at Waynesville Middle School have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution and guidance from the Pulaski County Health Department, all students on the 8th Grade White Team will start learning virtually. Students on the 8th Grade White Team should stay home and attend school virtually from September 17th through September 29th. They will be receiving additional instructions from the middle school. All students on the White 8th Grade Team will return to the traditional, seated classroom on September 30th, per the health department. While on virtual learning, members of the 8th Grade White Team will be unable to participate in extracurricular activities and sports. To be clear, only those students who have had close contacts with the positive cases — and those individuals will be contacted privately — will need to follow the Pulaski County Health Department’s recommendations for 14 days of isolation. Wearing masks and keeping socially distanced has kept the close contact list to a limited number of students at the middle school. Parents are asked to continue to reinforce these preventive measures so that the district can continue to keep students safe in school. The district immediately conducted extra deep cleaning in impacted areas and will continue to follow all recommended safety guidelines.
