Senate Passes State Budget Plan

After about 12 hours of work, the Missouri Senate Tuesday, passed a roughly 50-billion-dollar state budget plan. The proposal includes 2.8-billion-dollars to widen Interstate-70 to at least three lanes in both directions from Blue Springs near Kansas City to Wentzville near St. Louis. Appropriations Committee Chairman Lincoln Hough (huff) says it also includes 3.6-billion-dollars in state aid to schools and 29-million to raise the minimum public school teacher salary to 38-thousand-dollars.

Other key budget items include 461-million to boost pay for workers who take care of people with developmental disabilities and 50-million to help Jackson County organize the 2026 World Cup in Kansas City. The spending plan heads back to the House with tweaks, where the lower chamber is expected to choose to let a group of House and Senate members negotiate changes.
