Saturday is National Purple Heart Day. Purple Heart Day commemorates men and women who were wounded or killed by an opposing armed forces during military service.
At Fort Leonard Wood, more than 70 current Soldiers and countless other service members, prior-service Defense Department civilians and military retirees in the community are Purple Heart recipients.
Fort Leonard Wood this week has been highlighting Purple Heart Medal recipients who are currently on post.
Here are just a few of Fort Wood’s Purple Heart recipients.
Staff Sgt. Bryant Kindrick was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action April 22nd, 2013 in Sangi Village, Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Shawn Mason was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action Aug. 9th, 2010 in Fallujah, Iraq.
Sgt. 1st Class Michael Muir was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action July 18, 2006 in Ramadi, Iraq.
And Lieutenant Colonel Cristian Pinzon was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action Oct. 10th, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq.
