Ruth Evelyn Barclay, age 93, of Independence, Missouri, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Jackson Creek Memory Care Center in Independence, Missouri.

Ruth was born on November 1, 1931, in Wellington, Kansas, the seventh of eight children, and the only daughter of Wesley and Blanche (Cooper) Cornwell. On September 3, 1950, Ruth was united in marriage to Max Dale Barclay. To this union three children were born. Ruth worked as a homemaker, raising her children. She made the best beef and noodles, with homemade noodles and beef that Max raised on their farm, and her apple pie was extraordinary. In the late 1950s, Ruth, alongside Max, was baptized. She was a member of New Salem Southern Baptist Church.

Ruth was preceded by her parents, and husband Max. She is survived by her children, Terry Norris and husband Jerry, Teresa Evans and husband Bob, and Michael Barclay and wife Carol, grandchildren Cara Gruhala and husband Mike, Michelle Johnson and husband Josh, Tracy Stoll, and Amy Thompson and husband Zach, great grandchildren, Parker and Logan Johnson, Lucas and Greta Johnson, Evelyn and Jude Gruhala.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 23, 2024, with Pastor Tony Butcher officiating at the Hopewell Cemetery in Tunas, Missouri. The grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be given to Hopewell Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Contributions may be mailed to PO Box 993 Buffalo, Mo., 65622. or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
