Robert Coffman (Bolivar)
Robert (Bob) Aulden Coffman, of Fair Play, MO, passed away August 9, 2024. Bob was born November 22, 1947, to Georgia Guinn (Ross) Coffman and Charles Douglas Coffman, Sr. in Holmes Park, MO as the last baby the local doctor delivered at home. He graduated in 1965 from Ruskin High School in the metropolitan of Kansas City, MO.
At 16, Bob was saved by the grace of God at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. He was an active member at Forest Home Missionary Baptist Church in Stockton, MO where he had served the Lord for 37 years at the time of his death.
Having joined the Marine Corps in 1966, Bob volunteered for service in Vietnam as his family’s representative. During his service from 1966-1968, he was injured in combat in the Tet Offensive and received a Purple Heart and a Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Bob continued his service to our government working for the Post Office in Springfield, MO for 16 years where he retired. Despite his medical discharge, Bob remained a true Marine throughout his life and was a member of VFW Post 3404. Semper Fidelis.
Bob and Carolyn (Carol) Peters/Clark fell in love during Bob’s service in Vietnam, sharing letters back and forth throughout his time in combat. They were joined in marriage December 6, 1968, at the Chapel on Longview farms surrounded by family and friends.
Bob and Carol were avid sportsmen and shared many years of hunting and fishing together. After much anticipation, they were blessed with a daughter, Kathryn Elsie Coffman, in August of 1989. At the time of Bob’s passing, they were married for 55 years.
Bob was preceded in death by both parents, Charles and Georgia Coffman, and his brother, Charles Douglas (Doug) Coffman Jr.
Robert leaves behind his wife, Carol (Peters/Clark) Coffman, his daughter Kathryn (Coffman) Johnson and son-in-law Eliott Johnson, sister-in-law Patty (DeShazo) Coffman, brother Johnnie Coffman, sister Sherry (Shadwick) Breshears and husband Daniel Breshears, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews, all whom he loved dearly.
