Roads Remain Dangerous

Numerous traffic mishaps on icy Ozark roads kept law enforcement officials busy over the past 24 hours. Traffic on I-44 was rerouted in the Lebanon area as travel conditions rapidly deteriorated yesterday afternoon, causing traffic at the 142-mile marker east of Lebanon to come to a standstill.
The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traveler Information Map shows several roads remain covered with snow and ice across the state. It shows covered roads in the northwest and northern Missouri, as well as a few in the Kansas City area, southern and southeast Missouri. Jason Shafer, with MoDOT, says too many people are driving for non-essential reasons and are driving too fast for the conditions.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says many drivers are traveling without their headlights and taillights turned on. Gusty winds are causing blowing snow and problems seeing down the road.
