The number of positive cases and quarantined students due to COVID-19 has decreased during the physical closure of Waynesville Middle School; however, cases still exist; therefore, 7th and 8th grade traditional students will return to the seated classroom in Phase II of the district’s reopening plan.
Phase II is a reduced attendance plan that focuses on bringing back a lower number of students to allow for increased social distancing, while others remain in online learning. At this time, all middle school students will be returning on Oct. 26th; however, traditional students with unique learning needs will return to the seated classroom on Tuesday, Oct. 13th. Parents of students with unique learning needs will be notified privately by Waynesville Middle School staff starting next week.
During Phase II, additional precautions will be in place, including random screenings of students and additional daily cleaning. All extra-curricular middle school activities will be suspended until Oct. 26th.
