Recreational Marijuana decision by Lebanon City Council

During the Monday night City Council meeting, Council passed the Lebanon Police Enhances Community Support Initiative. The Community Support Initiative Bill boosts the mental health component of the Lebanon Police Department’s Community Support Initiative (CSI). This enhancement adds a dedicated behavioral health liaison from Compass Health who will work closely with officers to connect at-risk individuals with essential resources. The addition aligns with ongoing efforts to address citizen concerns expressed in surveys and aims to expand over time to meet growing needs in the community.
Strengthens a compassionate approach to public safety, helping those in need access vital services while addressing broader community concerns.

Lebanon City Council has decided not to move forward with placing a repeal of recreational marijuana sales on the 2024 ballot. The decision was made based on the significant positive impact the tax revenue has had on local drug prevention and recovery programs. Funds from these sales have been crucial in supporting initiatives at the Laclede County Treatment Court and the Lebanon Police Department. Additionally, the Lebanon Police Department has reported no rise in criminal activity related to marijuana since its legalization, reinforcing the community’s focus on safety and support.

Lebanon City Council also approved the first reading of a Parade Route Amendment. The bill proposes updates to parade regulations by introducing three pre-approved routes for most events. The ordinance, if passed on the second read on September 9th, will improve safety and reduce the strain on city resources while still allowing for flexibility. The Lebanon Christmas Parade and Light Up Lebanon Parade remain exempt from these changes, preserving their unique routes.
