Real Property tax credit for Social Security Recipients

Counties in Missouri now have the ability to grant a property tax credit to eligible taxpayers. The property tax credit would be for residents who are eligible for Social Security retirement benefits, are the owner of record or have a legal or equitable interest in a homestead, and are liable for payment of real property taxes. In Laclede County, Presiding Commissioner Randy Angst says they are working on a county ordinance to implement the tax credit….

The credit granted shall be applied when calculating the eligible taxpayer’s property tax liability for the tax year. The amount of the credit shall be noted on the statement of tax due sent to the eligible taxpayer by the county collector.
