Only 17.69 percent of registered voters in Pulaski County made their choices known in the August primary election Tuesday.
Voters re-elected Presiding Commissioner Gene Newkirk over challenger, Joseph Krill, 2,599 to 1,070. In the five candidate contest for the unexpired two year Western District Commissioner term, Andy Helms was the top vote getter, receiving 674 votes while current Western District Commissioner, Clinton Jarrett, received 323 votes. Terry Richardson finished third with 260 votes, Michael Hartley 208 votes, and Joe Leuthen 147 votes. Mack Wilkerson edged out Lorna West, 2,031 votes to 1,564, for Pulaski County Treasurer.
All these election winners were Republicans who will face no opposition in the General Election in November.
Other Republican candidates who were unopposed in the primary and will be unopposed in the General Election include Bill Hardwick for 121st District State Representative, Don Mayhew for 124th District State Representative, Michael Headrick for re-election as Associate Circuit Judge-Probate Division, David Ernst for re-election as Pulaski County Clerk, and Terry Mitchell for County Collector.
Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hillman was unopposed Tuesday for his party’s nomination for another term in office. He will be opposed in November by former Prosecutor Wayne Gifford, who likewise was unopposed for the Democrat nomination.
Colin Long was unopposed on the Democrat ballot for re-election as Associate Circuit Judge-Magistrate Division, as was Rachelle Beasley for re-election as Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Deeds. They will face no Republican opponent in November.
Mark Prugh won re-election as Democrat Committeeman for Cullen Township 256 to 161 over Wayne Gifford.

Crocker voters overwhelmingly approved a 4-million dollar bond issue 132 to 36 for water and sewer improvements in the community.

Glen Askeland scored an apparent 65-to-64 victory over Theresa Alexander Cook for St. Robert Ward 1 Council Member.
