Public access to storm shelter coming to Lebanon

Right now, there are no public storm shelters available in the city of Lebanon. But, that is about to change. On October 13th, the Lebanon R-3 School board will consider approval of a formal agreement with the City of Lebanon which will allow for public use of district storm shelters. In the agreement, the proposed storm shelters are located at Lebanon Middle School, and Maplecrest Elementary School, where a tornado shelter is under construction. The school district has applied for a FEMA grant which will provide funds for the construction of a storm shelter at Boswell Elementary School. If the project is approved, that shelter will also be available public use. As part of the agreement, during tornadic storms, a police officer will be dispatched to the school to unlock the storm shelter for the public, otherwise the building will remain locked during times when school is not in session.
