Protests in K.C., St Louis, Springfield and Lebanon
A weekend of protests nationwide, including in Missouri, rallied against a suspected police brutality death in Minnesota. Alisa Nelson reports.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson activated the Missouri National Guard Saturday to help police departments in the state. The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department announced Sunday that 85 people were arrested Saturday night after protesting in the Country Club Plaza quickly turned violent. Protesters blocked Interstate 44 for nearly three hours after taking to the streets in Saint Louis Friday night, the Post-Dispatch reported. One protester died after climbing between two trailers of a FedEx truck and was killed when it drove away. Police said they were investigating. A small number of residents gathered on the parking lot of King Cash Saver Saturday and Sunday to bring awareness about the police incident in Minneapolis which claimed the life of George Floyd. Signs were displayed along Jefferson Avenue, with the name of George Floyd, some with Black Lives Matter and I can’t breathe. There was no civil disobedience reported.
